Founded in 2018, Spotlights Community Youth Theatre was set up to provide an affordable education In theatrical arts.
A registered charity, Spotlights runs classes in drama, dance and singing and aims to give children and young people a rounded education in theatre skills. In addition to the regular classes, Spotlights produces a yearly show and often also performs a showcase, which allows the students to really show off the skills they’ve been learning.
The Trust was delighted to support Spotlights with an award to fund a sessional worker to support the young people to write, rehearse and perform a play.
Thanks to the funding from The Weir Charitable Trust our senior group was able to be supported to create, write and film a script that catered to their abilities and interests. This project has really engaged the young people and grown their confidence and skills, and they are already asking to write more scripts.
