Give Blood 4 Good (GB4G) is a Scottish-based awareness charity set up in 2019 in memory of Patrick Smith. Patrick was extremely passionate about blood donation, so much so that he gave blood as soon as he was able to, on his 17th birthday.
Since 2020 the charity has been on a mission to get as many people to donate blood as possible. Through working with organisations, schools and universities across Scotland, the team of volunteers have created two initiatives to improve education and increase participation in blood donation – the Young Ambassador Programme and the #BloodyBrilliant Uni Squad Programme.
Recognising the impact the charity is making and the ambition of the team at GB4G, The Weir Charitable Trust was delighted to make an award to support the growth of the Young Ambassador Programme. This is an e-learning initiative aiming to improve education surrounding blood donation among high school students, so they know all about giving blood before they turn 17 – the age at which people are eligible to start donating blood.
Receiving the award from The Weir Charitable Trust has allowed GB4G to take the transformational step of employing our first member of staff, marking a significant milestone in the charity’s journey and ensuring the Young Ambassador Programme can grow and ultimately reach more schools and young people across Scotland’
