FRED is a registered SCIO and is currently home to 27 donkeys. They work hard to meet the physical, medical and emotional needs of the donkeys they permanently look after.
The Trust was delighted to support FRED’s work with an award to support the creation of a hard standing area around the stables.
FRED Trustee, Iriana McGroarty said “ At FRED we recognise the effects climate change is having on our seasons. The Weir Charitable Trust has enabled us to begin to mitigate some of the problems the wet weather brings to the health of our donkeys. We have purchased mud mats and created fenced concrete yards to protect the donkeys feet from wet paddocks and mud. Donkeys evolved in the arid deserts of Africa and Asia, they are just not equipped to deal with constant wet and mud. Wet conditions underfoot pose many serious foot problems for our old donkeys.
