Empty Kitchens Full Hearts

Case study

Category:Health

Empty Kitchens Full Hearts is an initiative that rescues surplus food and turns it into free, healthy meals for people in need. The goals of the charity are to prevent hunger, restore health and wellbeing, and help people out of poverty for good. The team supports more than 1,200 people in poverty every year.

Nutritious meals are freshly prepared, delivered directly to people’s homes, temporary accommodation or local collection hubs. This meal provision is combined with regular wellbeing calls and signposting/referrals to further tailored services.
The Weir Charitable Trust was delighted to support Empty Kitchens Full Hearts with an award to contribute towards the core running costs for the running of the meals and wellbeing services.

People come to us when they have reached a crisis point in their lives - many have not eaten in days. The Weir Charitable Trust has helped to sustain our core service, ensuring we can meet people’s immediate food needs quickly and compassionately. People tell us the difference that this makes. They feel healthier and stronger, less stressed, and like they are not facing life’s challenges alone. Once people are receiving a consistent, healthy diet, we can start to link them to additional support, tailored to their long-term needs. A huge thank you to The Weir Charitable Trust for helping to make this happen.
