Recognising the positive impact the club was making in the community, The Weir Charitable Trust made an award to support the sporting activities programme. These activities would benefit mental and physical health, as well as social cohesion within the community.

Bluevale Community Club is a community anchor organisation in the East End of Glasgow. Operating from the local community hall and a separate multi-purpose gym facility, the Club operate in one of the most disadvantaged communities in Scotland.
Our aim for the award was to use sport and healthy recreational activities as a way we can provide some measure of relief to generational poverty, unemployment, and addiction – all major issues for our communities. Through this award and further grant funding just having the community centre open has been seen as a lifeline for the community. Residents can attend to sort our housing issues, money and debt advice, help with numeracy and literacy, food support, improve fitness, meet friends, increase confidence and more all at no cost taking away financial barriers to the community.
